Panga Chumvi is a relaxed, family-run eco guesthouse right on the beautiful, white sand beach of Matemwe, with the reef and Mnemba Atol in view.
We have 15 simple, yet stylish and comfortable en-suite rooms: some right on the beach; others about 30 metres back.
Our restaurant serves fresh and locally inspired food overlooking the sea.
We are unusual in that as well as providing a laidback and friendly place for holidays, we also run retreats for artists and from time to time the artists run arts programmes out of our place. Ask us for more information
Our extensive garden has many shady or sunny lounging areas, great for relaxing or sunbathing. The sea is ever present, washing right up to the garden edge at high tide.
Matemwe is a fishing village; we are far from any crowds. We love the surroundings for its unspoilt and authentic atmosphere, and think you will too. We love it here and welcome guests who care as passionately as we do about the environment and local culture – come and join us!

A friend and I recently stayed at Panga Chumvi for three nights. It’s located on a gorgeous stretch of beach, is incredibly peaceful and relaxing. We had all our meals in the restaurant and the food was really tasty. Pretty much everything was locally sourced and the menu was small but varied. We found all the staff from those that worked in the restaurant to the groundskeepers to the housekeeping staff to be very friendly and helpful. There seemed to be free wi-fi in the restaurant too. read more“A little piece of paradise”

This wasn’t my first trip to Panga Chumvi, and it most certainly won’t be my last either! It is the perfect place to forget the rest of the world exists for a few days. The beach is stunning and despite the Zanzibari tides, you can swim just fine at any point in the day (at what time will depend on what time of year it is but I’ve always managed morning and evening). The rooms are always clean, tidy and beautifully presented, and offer a great night’s sleep. read more“Simply perfect”

We have been the second time at Panga Chumvi and felt so happy to be back at this amazing place. The area of this Resort is very spacious which means you really have this kind of privacy you need to relax and recover from stress in any form. You can enjoy the incredible view from your own veranda, listening to the breeze of the ozean and the beach is just 3 steps ahead. Or you can enjoy the beautiful sunrise in the morning just when you are laying in your beautiful traditional bed or the amazing moonlight and stars at night. read more“100 % Recommendable”
